Central Jersey Overview: For the first time this season the fluke boats are coming in with better catches them the bass or blues. Most of the party boats are reporting good, decent fluke in 60 to 80 feet of water but the doggies are running rampant. Flatties to 8-pounds plus are abundant in the deeper depths but the shallows around Seaside Park and Asbury are starting to pick up. The offshore regions are starting to produce shark in all shapes and sizes. Makos and blues to 150-pounds are taking bloody baits closer to shore; bass to 47 pounds have been taken along the surfside on pencil poppers and bunker. Most of the giant bass are out of here but a few cows are still coming up around Island Beach and south.

IBSP and Point Pleasant Area: The kayakers are keeping all the fun for themselves as the bunker schools are out of reach from the persistent surfcasters. Reports off big bass to 40-pounds off of Seaside Park caught on pencil poppers and live-lined bunker are coming in. Surf casting has been futile for the rest of the area. Bass and blues are being caught as far south of the Barnegat Inlet in 30 to 50 feet. Snagging and Dropping bunker is far more productive then last week in places like Point Pleasant, Ortley Beach and Meyer’s Hole. Bluefish to 15 pounds are still outweighing the number of cows being caught. The Manasquan Inlet is packed with people and cocktail blues near the South Jetty. Bucktails are doing plenty of damage offshore in 50 to 60 feet. The Cranford Ferry is a happening place for fluke and sea bass; squid and white bucktails in 60 to 75 feet is the ticket.
