Manasquan Area: A good run of cocktail blues has lured anglers to the rails in the Manasquan Area. Action turns on and off as the tides change but the out going tide is producing a better bite. Snapper blues are taking small metals and in turn are great baits for fluke in deep water just outside the inlet. Fluke action in the wash and just over 1 mile out the inlet is averaging a keeper ratio of 10 to 1. The deeper water has provided anglers with a lot more keepers and bigger flatties to boot. Water in the 40 to 60 foot range, especially at the Ridges, is the Hot Spot of the week.
Although it’s been slow lately, the Ridges and the canyons are producing excellent offshore bites. Bluefin have been spotted in the Chicken Canyon and the Barnegat Ridge all week with feathers being the top trolling lure. As for the inshore action, look out behind the bluefish boats because threshers up to 150-pounds have been hooked on a regular basis.
