Overview: Be very careful what your wish for anglers as the fish gods are starting to answer a few prayers. A slow but steady bass migration has started in places like Manasquan and Deal. Boaters are having most of the fun but as colder water moves in, bass are starting to feed aggressively. Most fish are still resident bass but this is the first week were cow stripers were caught south of Deal on a regular basis. Most other fisheries are either closed or non-existent right now so bass seems to be the only game in town. Blackfish anglers are hopping around on jetties in search of double-digit fish but it’s hard to find them with only a one fish limit.
Manasquan: Striper fisherman have been trying to do their best sand eel impersonations this week as plenty of bass were feasting on these amino acid filled treats. Diamond Jigs are still the best method for both bass and blues with AVA 47’s, Deadly Dicks and a few select ball jighead plastics taking fish to 22 pounds. Mantoloking and Bay Head are top places to fish right now for a killer bass bite. Just be sure to ask your local shops what baits are in before you rig up.
