Overview: The big bass invasion is still on at the tip of Jersey. Stripers to 25 pounds were reported in the Raritan Bay. Most keepers were caught on top-water lures, but clams are still the best bait in the surf. Bluefish blitzes have been reported for most of North Jersey with “a fish on every cast” being the motto for the week. Beachfronts and inlets are providing most of the action during the day. For night owls action has been circling around the bridges and bays.

Keyport: Be sure to grab your waders, anglers. All beachfronts in this area are on high alert for stripers and blues. Bass to 23 pounds were taken at places like: Cliffwood Beach, Union Beach and the Cliffwood Rock Wall. Bluefish are also along beachfronts, but you can find them in the Raritan Bay. Tins and chunked bunker are the top baits for bluefish to 10 pounds. Black drum were also caught this week for the first time this season. Drum to 45 pounds made their way onto angler’s hooks. Breeder weakfish have been caught, but it’s a good idea to let the big tiderunners go to spawn.
