Overview: The weather is hot and the skies are clear as the summer fishing is kicked up a notch or two. Bass fishing continues to please anglers in the Raritan Bay area and a little further to the south. It’s been a toss of the dime in most places as fluke fisherman try to land a few winners offshore. Small reports of blackfish and sea bass are whirling around at Sandy Hook Bay. Not much has been seen as far as weakfish are concerned, but Central Jersey is loaded with them. Look for a nice offshore report next week as guys are making the move out to the canyons as we speak!
Keyport: Bass angling has been slow at best on both the ocean and bay side of the Hook. The bay is being choked out with snappers so look for a lot of larger fluke to be there as well. Speaking of fluke, anglers are coming back to the shops with fluke to 10 pounds using Gulp! baits. The problem is that fluke are on the move and aren’t staying in one place for long. The Keyport Docks are still loaded with blues in the 2 to 6-pound range. Try looking for the birds if you are heading out on a boat. Reports of a lot of terns in this area means good chunked bait action.
