Overview: Bass anglers are still missing the beat as the striper fishing continues to disappoint for the most part. The only big time winners right now are trolling bunker spoons on first light outside of the bay. Fluke fishing is just about to take a turn for the better as snapper bluefish are being reported all over the place. Sandy Hook Channel is doing nicely for flatties along with the Sandy Hook Reef. Weakfish and large bluefish are not around like they were last week and might not pay off until later on in the month. Offshore the action is awesome with longfin, bluefin and yellowfin all over the Hudson and Glory Hole.

Atlantic Highlands: There have been a ton of small bluefish and bass all over the South Beach area, but nothing you can stick in a cooler. Small tins and chunked baits are doing well near South Beach and further east to False Hook Bay. Fluke are doing better for the week near the Atlantic Highlands Bridge on Gulps and Spros.

Bonito and Spanish mackerel have just started to make an appearance off of Sandy Hook. Trolling Jap Feathers or Green Machines would probably be best. Offshore the Shrewsbury Rocks are your best bet for keeper fish or any kind. Bait shops are reporting good sea bass numbers on the Shrewsbury Rocks using squid, spearing and Spro bucktails.

Long Branch: A few legal bass were taken from The Hilton and over by Monmouth Beach, but nothing to start a frenzy over. Bass numbers are at a dead stand still in this area for the most part. Big blues from two weeks ago have vanished without a trace. All that’s left are a few scattered schools of snappers here and there. Spike weakies are still holding strong in the Navesink River at the #20 Buoy. A majority of the action from this area revolves around the Sandy Hook Reef with sea bass and fluke giving a nice showing in 40 to 60-feet of water.
