Large bass are still avoiding many anglers inshore. Plenty of bluefish are taking up the slack though, with blues to 13 pounds. Striped bass are still biting strong at Flynn’s Knoll in the Raritan Bay. Bluefish are starting to take plugs and tins at North Beach, at the end of Sandy Hook on the ocean side. Outside at the wrecks bluefish are also taking mossbunker chum and chunks at the 17 Fathom Bank.

Atlantic Highlands: Anglers are encouraged to stop watching TV and head out to the beach while the weather is still nice. Many keeper bass were taken from the entrance to the Navesink River. Shorts are also lined up all over the beach with a high concentration near Route 36. Party boats are still focusing on larger bluefish by the Highlands Bridge. The water temperatures are hovering around 65 degrees so not many large bass in town just yet. False albies are just starting to get within casting distance from the beach.

Long Branch: Monmouth Beach and Big Monmouth Beach Clubhouse has been great for the past week with tons of resident bass feeding on sandworms and clams. Most anglers are finding keepers using clams in the early morning. Larger bluefish are starting to hit the area again and tins and pencil poppers are taking plenty of gator blues. Use Bombers and Fin-S shad at first light for a devastating result in the Long Branch surf.
