Overview: Sorry guys! The big bass from last week are thinning out quicker than you can say “bunker spoon”. Local reports of bunker schools inside the Raritan River are keeping boat guys armed to the teeth. There is some really nice fish still migrating into the area, but be on the lookout for those bluefish monsters. They were spotted swarming up the coast last Sunday and spreading out. Trolling and jigging are still your best bet if you’re the gambling type. Forget about flounder and blackfish for the season. Stick to the bass and bluefish combo and let it ride!
Shark River Area: Jigging and trolling is definitely the name of the game in the Shark River section. Places to the north like Deal and Elberon are producing nice bass on white bunker spoons and Ava’s. Monster blues were also on the menu this week with fish to 15 pounds inside the Shark River. Flounder fishing is practically at a standstill since the appearance of blues. Blackfish anglers are still on a swing and a miss stand point with keepers on the inlet rocks. Keeper fish are being weighed in on an every other day basis.
