Reports of less bass and more bluefish are streaming in on daily basis. It seems the bass that are around are breeder size and are taking whole snagged bunker and clams inside Raritan Bay. All of the fun is being had by boat anglers on the morning tide. Beach casters are taking less and less bass as the weeks go by. Rogue bluefish schools are dominating Sandy Hook Bay and Raritan Bay. Any type of flounder action is completely off now with reports of 15 plus-pound bluefish patrolling the waves.

Keyport Area: Reports of 15-pound bluefish and 20-pound bass are flowing into shops around the Keyport Area. Bass are hitting clams, sandworms and chunked bunker from the beach while boats are scoring with the old reliable Stretch 25’s. A report of fluke around the Keansburg Pier has been drowned out by all the great bass action towards the north. The Raritan Bay has its fare share of big bass and blues, but you have to look for the bunker schools to be really on the money. New York waters has seen great fishing as well, but just wait until the bunker schools shift south for the week ahead. Stick to trolling and jigging inside the Raritan Bay for excellent result of big blues and bass.

South Amboy Area: Action from Perth Amboy south to Fort Monmouth has been awesome for beach casters. Big stripers are coming into the surf with plenty of gator blues right in with them. The beach fishing scene has turned around from last week and is great around Sandy Hook Bay. The appearance of big bluefish schools has destroyed any shot of grabbing a keeper flounder until next season. Racer and gator blues have been invading beaches on a daily basis.

Atlantic Highlands Area: Trolling just off the beach, less than a mile out, is perfect water right now. Stretch 25’s, Stretch Imitators and rubber shad patterns are working off of Flynn’s Knoll with a slight East wind. Fishing with clams has picked up since last week, but jigging and trolling are hot right now. Action over at South Beach is still good for keeper stripers on clams and chunked bunker. Further north near Sandy Hook has been good with clams, but once you get in a boat you’re going to want to bust out the spreader bars and bunker spoons.

Shark River Area: Jigging and trolling is definitely the name of the game in the Shark River section. A ton of bluefish were caught during the week at the Shark River Inlet with reports of 15 and 16-pound monster blues. Action off of Monmouth Beach at the Sandy Hook Reef is consistent with ling being abundant in 60-feet of water. Fluke guys are getting a little cheesed off at almost keeper-sized fluke being nailed at the mouth of the Shark River. Blackfish anglers are still on a swing and a miss stand point with keepers on the inlet rocks. Keeper fish are being weighed in on an every other day basis.
