Overview: Reports of less bass and more bluefish are streaming in on daily basis. It seems the bass that are around are breeder size who are taking whole snagged bunker and clams inside Raritan Bay. All of the fun is being had by boat anglers on the morning tide. Beachcasters are taking less and less bass as the weeks go by. Rogue bluefish schools are dominating Sandy Hook Bay and Raritan Bay. Pre-season fluke are being taken by most anglers this week.
Keyport Area: Bass are hitting clams, sandworms and chunked bunker from the beach while boats are scoring with the old reliable Stretch 25’s. A report of fluke around the Keansburg Pier has been drowned out by all the great bass action towards the north. The Raritan Bay has its fare share of big bass and blues, but you have to look for the bunker schools to be really on the money. It’s been a slow week along the New York side and not much else has been reported for Jersey Waters. Stick to trolling and jigging inside the Raritan Bay for excellent result of big blues and bass.
South Amboy Area: Clams and bunker are providing the best action at places like Cliffwood Beach. The beach fishing scene has turned around from last week and is great around Sandy Hook Bay. Most of the really good bass fishing is near Monmouth Beach. A ton of bluefish have been reported along the beaches on tins and bloody bunker. Big sized black drum are being caught off the beach around Sandy Hook. Cheesequake Park has been excellent for freshwater trout since the last stock.
