Overview: It’s a clash of the titans in the Raritan Bay as bass and fluke collide! Bass just barely squeaked past fluke with decent catches from both the surf and the boats. Fluke did fairly well in the first week of the season, but it is early and the water is still colder then fluke prefer. Inside the bay has been good for bait guys in 30 to 60 feet of water. Use a combo bait for any chance at getting a keeper. Small isolated reports of weakfish have been spoken at some local shops, but weakfish are still a long way away from a full blown rush. Reports of nice sea bass to the south of Raritan Bay is a good sign to the party boat fleet.

Keyport Area: Fish inside the Raritan Bay this week with great reports of bass being caught on clams, bunker and on the troll. Small to medium sized bluefish are still lurking around the bay following the bunker pods. Use bunker heads just after the small storm we have brewing Friday night. Hit the Raritan Reach and Bug Light for decent fluke action early on in the season. Combo squid and killies is a good start if you’re fishing from a boat.
